To finish my animal research for today, I’d like to share that elephants participate in same-sex relations a ton, apparently.  46% of mating acts in captive elephants are same-sex matings.  This is mostly (I think only) in males, (although there is such things as a lesbian lizard).

When a male and a female mate, the interaction is fleeting, and they don’t stick together.  But “homosexual” elephant relationships are continuous in what scientists call a “companionship” between an older male elephant and two, younger, “attending” male elephants.

I just thought that was very interesting.

My appreciation for New Zealand was just elevated.

This guy, on the other hand, kind of bothers me.  That’s a chicken he just killed thur.

Look at how cute it is!  This is what that green caterpillar would become.  Its a Hercules Moth.  Its one of the biggest in the world, although the Atlas Moth is biggest (1 foot wingspan!!)
